The Little Things

Things are slightly different here, as one would expect. However, one phenomenon that I've really never encountered anywhere else: drippage.

Every now and then when walking down the street, sometimes you get dripped on. Now, this does happen everywhere, sometimes from an awning or a tree after a rain; sometimes it's starting to drizzle; sometimes a wet truck drives by and throws off little drops as it speeds along. It happens. You identify what dribbled on you, hope it was just water, and move on.

Now, here, it's not just after a rain. It's every time you walk down the street. I don't care if you're just out to grab some toilet paper from the corner bodega, you will get splattered at least once. It's not a lot, just a couple of droplets. Then you will look up to see what street sign you're standing under, or air conditioning unit, or leaky whatnot. And there will be NOTHING. Nothing but a bright, clear sky and a tall building next to you. Several feet away from you. It's not rain. It's not leakage. It's just city juice.

There was a kid in the neighborhood where I grew up that used to say when it rained that God was crying. If it thundered, God was playing his piano. So what is this, God let his chihuahua outside without a leash?
