New York life v2.0

When it rains, it pours, good things come in threes, and other such cliches. I had a really good weekend.

Marilet was here to visit, so we ate all the food, talked all the gossip and saw Christian's show (Now and at the Hour, moving and magical as always). We also saw the second preview of Rooms, an off-Broadway "rock romance" which was disappointing, but has potential, I think. And the tickets were free courtesy of Nathan who is great. A friend from Yale who was randomly in town made it for the preview as well.

It was my transitional weekend between FAO on Thursday and Trader Joe's on Monday, so I was feeling a little antsy and purposeless, but Monday (I'm counting it as part of the weekend. If you look at the Sunday-Saturday calendar, they're touching) was my orientation at Trader Joe's.

It was snowy and freezing-arsed cold on Monday, but gorgeous and powdery and it kept all but the die-hard shoppers at home, so TJ's had an almost standard number of customers in the store instead of a line wrapping around the entire shop! Immediately after orientation, I went and used my 10% discount (which is about 114% less of a hassle to apply than at FAO), got groceries, went home. Had some Marilet time again before she left, making it still more part of the weekend.

I know I had kind of drunk the FAO kool-aid after orientation there, too, but even if TJ's loses its shiny sheen later on, I'll still have stars in my eyes (and little hearts floating around my head) for it for ever and ever. Even if we don't factor in the vibe, the we-care-about-everyone-for-real-instead-of-just-saying-that-we-do personality, the dorky quirkiness, the vibrancy of the atmosphere and the quality of the product, there are no children in this store. Ever. It's too massively crowded at all times for people to try and deal with anyone under 18 at the same time. Trader Joe's wins!

So then the other thing is I started hanging out a little bit with this fella over the weekend, and I think he's really swell. I will share more if we end up seeing each other a bit more, which I hope happens.

Anywho. The last thing is I got an email this morning asking if I would like to do a piece for the next Sticky coming up in April. These are 10-minute plays all set in a bar and performed on location, they happen every couple of months, very casual, and lots of fun. I attended my first two these last couple of weeks, got introduced (thank you Jamie!) to one of the people who started/run it, sent in my stuff and voila. I'm told it's very few rehearsals, not intense at all, for a nice little night as a result. Hooray networking!

I keep having the image in my head of a flowerpot full of soil (also I bought a starter kit for a carnivorous plant, a Sundew, which I've wanted since I was twelve, from FAO before I left and I'm terribly excited to start growing it) that's been left getting dusty all winter, and now that spring is approaching someone's come along with a trowel or a small shovel (I don't actually know what a trowel is) or one of those elongated fork things and begun to rake through and turn over the soil, mix it all up in preparation for planting something.

Things are good. Let's see where they go.

Marilet! We're fighting with rapiers and daggers.
