A New Show

So I'm gonna be in a show! This fall, if anyone is going to be in New York between late September and early November, I would be moste pleased if they should come to see Office Hours at the Flea Theater. It's a new A.R. Gurney play, about a Classics course called The Western Tradition (similar to Western Civ at UC Berkeley, which many L&S students took because it fulfilled the R&C requirement and something in the 7-Course Breadth). I was going to link to the playwright's wikipedia listing, but this article name-checks the play I'm talking about, so it wins.

There are going to be two separate-but-equal casts for this play, with 52 performances split evenly between us. Apparently all of the actors that read for Jim and Pete in the end were so wonderful that they had to have all of us. We'll all be playing multiple roles, a la The Dining Room.

The kicker? The real real kicker? The cast(s) of the play will be going to the Adirondacks for two weeks in August to rehearse. Working vacation. 1) I cannot WAIT to take a fuckin' break from this city. They have TREES there, you guys! I will swim! I'm going to swim the hell out of a lake. Maybe I will conveniently forget to bring my phone. Amazing. 2) I feel like such a grown up, going on a "working vacation." Of course, I still don't get paid, I'm still not Equity and still don't earn any points, and while I will be at this off-off Broadway for the third time, I still can't get seen by anyone casting for regional theater. But who cares?! I'm going on a working vacation. It's like this is my career and shit.
