First preview tonight! Sigourney Weaver came to last night's run. She stopped by the dressing rooms afterward to say nice things. Heeeeeeeee!
I can't believe we'll have three weeks of performances and then it'll all be over. I'm back to looking on backstage.com for the next project. Have done my first round of agent mailings, inviting agents to come and see the show, and some of the Equity actors have said they'll let us know if their agents come so that we can write them the day after.
After a month and a half of furious action, I'm feeling a little nebulous as to what happens next. I've been incredibly lucky to have gotten this amazing opportunity with The Flea so early on, but what does this mean in terms of the projects I'll be seeking from here on out? Just because I'm now working with a non-paying but very prestigious, very professional group - does it mean it would be taking a step backwards to accept roles with non-paying, unheard of and slightly more bootleg theaters? If the plays and projects themselves sound interesting and worthwhile, of course it's not a question of names and money. But what about the projects that sound kind of crappy? I'd've been willing to accept a lot of crappy crap projects just to add some NY credits to my resume and make some contacts. But should I be holding out now for things that I think will advance my career or have rich artistic merit? Or would that just be a case of piddling struggling actor being picky when they're really not in any kind of position to do so?
I'm also chipping away at the scant funds I have saved up as I set myself up here. With one 9/hr job and one 10/hr job, I don't know if I'll be able to afford working the crappy crap non-paying gigs; but then if I hold out for paying gigs only, it might just mean that I'm a retail monkey and not an actor for a very long time.
Also looking for more permanent lodgings again. Josh is in the Bay Area until Thanksgivingish, and so I've got a LITTLE bit of time to look, plus it may be a little easier now that I can actually tell people I've got a job; but it's never exactly fun trying to look for homes and people you can live with, is it?
One last thing I've learned this week: Mucinex and Tylenol Sinus is a winning combination.
